What is SSH?
'Secure Shell'. Secure Shell is a program designed to perform a number of functions, such as file transfer between computers, execution of commands on a remote computer, or logging on to a computer over a network. It is intended to be able to do these tasks with greater security. SSH replaced Telnet.
Is there a free program I can use for SSH?
PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. You can download it at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/. For more information about SSH and different OS version, go to http://www.cs.hmc.edu/tech_docs/qref/ssh.html.
How do I use SSH?
Assuming you have already downloaded Putty or another SSH program, run it, then type in the IP or domain name in the top text box, then click on the SSH button, and hit enter. From here you will be prompted for a username, then a password. (your password will not be shown while typing it)
I want to use SSH, but it is not working?
For security reason, SSH access for your account must be requested. Please send a support ticket to support@hostingcity.com. We refuse the right to take away SSH access at any time for abuse / misuse. |
